Although detailed statistics are not yet available for the Island, Hampshire Constabulary, said that overall — across the two counties — crime has dropped every year since 2006-7, when it stood at 179,914 offences.
For 2011-12 the figure was 129,327 crimes — a drop of 4,135 on the previous year — according to a statement issued today (Thursday).
Robberies, vehicle crime and all burglaries are down 1,793 offences to 15,643 (of which house burglaries are down 206 offences to 4,995).
Violence against the person is down 1,491 offences to 30,498.
Overall solved crime rates are up from 28 to 31 per cent. Robbery, vehicle crime and burglaries solved rates are up from 14 to 16 per cent — of which house burglary solved crime rates are up from 17 to 21 per cent.
“I have maintained the number of police officers and staff dedicated to local visible policing and I aim to continue that until 2015 and beyond. We’re moving closer to the heart of our communities and we’re constantly looking at new ways to make our service more accessible,” chief constable Alex Marshall said.
